His fever burns hot.
He’s longing to swim
in cool, deep waters.

The summer of 2013 was a hot one. That’s it. Not much of a back story. I wrote this verse to mentally cool myself off, and—for some reason I no longer remember—the image of a man ravaged by fever grew in my thoughts. He sought relief in a cool mountain lake. Brigitte’s image captures that feeling of cool waters, I think.

How do you stay cool during a hot summer? Let me know in the Comments.
Beautiful, Jenise! It reminds me of my teenage years. We used to go swimming in a river that rain beneath old railroad tracks. We put a pool in last spring, so now most of our hot summer days are spent in it!
I love this poem! The imagery is so striking!
