Hey Jenise, good to see you here! I am still using Scribophile, but I'm using Substack to build my platform as I plan my book launch (November 2023.) I'd love for you to subscribe to my newsletter too. I'm https://cathyshieldswriter.substack.com. Perhaps we could be guest writers for each other's newsletters ! I never did Medium, but Substack is so easy!
Hi, Cathy! Thank you so much for leaving a comment. I'll go visit your Substack newsletter, and am happy to hear about your book launch. We can chat via email re: how to promote fiction on Substack (sorely needed), and I like your idea!
The bulk of my Substack newsletter is old stories I previously published on Medium. No one has seen or read those stories in years. So I have no reservations about posting them on Substack and giving them a new audience. Jack Herlocker will occasionally remember one of the old stories, but he says he enjoys reading them again. Most of my Substack readers didn’t come from Medium, so the stories are new to them.
A good story is a good story, no matter how old it is. Post away!
I burned out earlier this year and couldn’t bear the thought of writing anything. Having that backlog of Medium stories allowed me to keep my newsletter going. Now I am easing back into writing again. Best wishes.
I like your comment, Mark, thanks for sharing and for your encouragement! You put a smile on my face. 😀
Question: I see the categories across the top of your newsletter (Monday Morning Mark, Britpop, etc.) How do I do that in Substack? I'd like to have Haiku/Poetry, Short Stories, etc.
Those are “sections”. They areas basically newsletters within your main newsletter. Each section sends out a separate newsletter to readers. I have one called Monday Morning Mark that I sent out my Monday morning mark newsletters from. I have one for my novels and one for my serial space sitcom. You set them up in the Settings menu. There is a help topic about them on Substack.
Hey, Justin, I appreciate your encouragement, as you've read many of my works since the beginning (Medium, your own journal). I'm excited about this new journey!
Sounds like good things are right around the corner! Alpacas are so cute!! I got to tour a real alpaca farm earlier this year and wow was that a blast!
Yes, Claire, I'm looking forward to the journey in 2023. Alpacas are so much fun. We had a tour of a huge (300 alpacas) operation in Washington state in 2007.

Thanks, Mark! I'll search for the Help topic. I wasn't sure if they'd be "categories" or "sections". Good information, Mark!
It’s been a pleasure reading your work again, Jenise! Good luck with everything! 😊
