The Spinster School Teacher
50 Word Story | Fiction

The one-room school house promised me boredom. The traveler promised me adventure beyond my imagination. I purchased the stagecoach fare, California bound.
An heiress joined us in Denver. The horses stumbled in the Rockies. Too much weight.
He pushed me over the cliff, and I haunt this accursed forest forever.

A Tale of the Old West
Although I’ve mentioned that I struggle with photo/image prompts suggested by publishers, the woman’s eyes in this image held me captive. I listened as her sad tale poured forth and filled my writer’s thoughts. Who would have guessed such a thing had happened to her?
What amazed me about this image is when I explored the artist’s Pixabay page, I found his post with links to the two original images he used to create this haunting image in sepia tones. Well done, Enrique!

Beautiful portrait, haunting story, well done.
Well, the saddest thing is that she bought her own ticket. We've all bought a few tickets in our lives that turned out to be mistakes, haven't we... This piece made me remember.
