I lie on the table, letting the anesthesia sing me to sleep.
I dream of robots removing the dense, clouded lenses from my eyes.
Awake, the new lenses see story arcs that make sense, first lines that readers love, publisher contracts to sign.
“Yes, doctor, the surgery is a success.”

About this Story
Note: This post is a part of my “push” between now and the end of December to publish my older works on Substack. You’ll read new works beginning January 2023!
Frankly, most journals and publications will outright reject an author’s story if it’s about the author or about writing.
I took a chance with this tiny story and submitted it to an online journal; rejected. I wasn’t surprised at all. The story’s a bit silly, but it is about me and a minor struggle I face.
I added humor at the end because publishing success feels illusive. However, I’m enjoying the journey.
Your Turn
Thanks for reading! I enjoy hearing from my readers:
I hate rejection but it’s all part of the game! I thought it was good, if that means anything ☺️
