The witch tempted me with a boiling, unruly potion.
“It’ll transform you, my dear, into your hidden personality.”
Curiosity over-ruled me. I drank. I screamed at the mirror’s reflection.
Red-ruby lips, a nose clear of blemishes, and an eye bright with innocence and wonder.
“What horrid being lives inside me?”

About this Story
Note: This post is a part of my “push” to publish my older works on Substack. I’m now publishing new works in between the ones I’m archiving here.
I don’t “celebrate” Halloween, but a seasonal writing prompt was irresistible. When I saw the image on Pixabay, a tiny voice in my writer brain spoke a story idea and I ran with it. It was fun to write, too.
The image prompted me to write the opposite of what the photo seems to convey.
Your Turn

Yikes! Is that What we look like on the inside? Who will deliver us from this body of death? Thanks be to God through Jesus Christ.
Good question! We should all look a little more closely at ourselves, Jenise. Euuuw!
