She walked out the front door, grateful to be free after a difficult year. Free to inhale deeply the crisp scent of the morning’s frost. Free to absorb the songbirds’ cheerful choruses.
Her freedom revived her for a few moments, until the lock-down officers clamped the handcuffs over her mittens.

About this Story
Note: This post is a part of my “push” between now and the end of December to publish my older works on Substack. You’ll read new works beginning January 2023!
Story prompt: “Revive” - on the former Friday Fix Fiction, EiC Justin Deming.
I watched the news about the COVID-19 lock downs (from my “somewhat free”, rural town in northern Arizona) that took place in other U. S. states and countries. From people’s stories on social media, I imagined a scene where an individual risked all just to see, feel, and smell the outdoors once again. To feel revived.
Justin Deming is very active on his Substack publication: Along the Hudson.

When I read it, I thought, There is a lot more to this story. Then I read your comment about Covid. It was not hard to imagine that happening in the beginning with the over reaction and fear so prevalent at the time.
