I ran into a ghost the other day. I think it was a ghost. It moaned a lot, and rattled chains like old Marley did when he visited Scrooge. I blinked and the vision cleared. The ghost was me, twenty years into the future, chained to a gray, corporate desk.

About this Story
Note: This post is a part of my “push” to publish my older works on Substack. I’m now publishing new works in between the ones I’m archiving here.
My story is about a scary vision that haunts and terrifies the main character. The inspiration for this story came from a discussion thread started by a member of my online writers community Scribophile. Someone posted a sentence and everyone took off discussing it with great enthusiasm.
When I saw the sentence, I told myself “That would be a great first line in a fiction story.” This story begins with that first sentence.
